Dr Timothy O’Dowd
Dr O’Dowd obtained FRANZCOG in January 1987, and has worked in private specialist practice associated with Pindara Private Hospital (RAMSAY) Gold Coast ever since. A fortunate collaboration with three other Fellows of the college in the early 1990s resulted in the group developing laparoscopic gynaecology at the hospital; setting up an independent preoperative patient consent structure; setting up a weekday/weekend obstetrics and gynaecology roster (a first for Australia); and, subsequently, an IVF unit. With other surgical specialists, Dr O’Dowd was a founding shareholder director in a joint venture day surgery with Pindara Hospital in the late 90s when there was a threat of managed care. Dr O’Dowd completed a Masters in Palliative Care (Flinders) in 2014. His present interest is in reclaiming the medical profession’s important role in making nutrition discussion a fundamental component of care for our obstetrics, gynaecology and infertility patients.
