A/Prof Alicia Dennis

A/Prof Alicia Dennis is a staff specialist academic obstetric anaesthetist and Director of Anaesthesia Research at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Parkville, Australia. Her postgraduate qualifications include a PhD in obstetric medicine, NHMRC fellowship for work on preeclampsia and Master of International Public Health. Her research interests include cardiac function in women with preeclampsia, obstetric critical illness, the role of echocardiography in critical illness, and gender inequity and its contribution to global maternal mortality. In 2013 Alicia was the Visiting Professorial Scholar for the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital investigating heart function using echocardiography in women with preeclampsia and pregnant women with HIV. She is a past Chair of the Obstetric Anaesthesia Special Interest Group (ANZCA), and the Public Practice Advisory Committee (Australian Society of Anaesthetists). Alicia is the Australasian Representative on the Scientific Affairs Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). Alicia was the recipient of the 2019 “Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women” grant from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Melbourne.
